What does MAS regulate?
Singapore’s central bank and integrated financial regulator. Firms dealing in capital markets products, including certain leveraged forex and CFDs, generally require a Capital Markets Services licence.
Jurisdiction: Singapore. The register is the primary place to confirm an entity’s current status and permissions; this guide does not certify a broker or account.
Licence types (general guidance)
- Capital Markets Services (CMS) licence
- Lists regulated activities such as dealing in capital markets products. Check the specific activities covered.
- Exempt entities
- Some institutions operate under exemptions. Confirm the exact basis on the official directory.
General description only. It does not imply that any particular broker holds any of these authorisations.
What should you check on the official register?
- 1Obtain the entity name from the provider’s legal documents.
- 2Search the Financial Institutions Directory on the MAS website.
- 3Check licensed activities and any conditions.
- 4Search the MAS Investor Alert List for unregulated entities using similar names.
- Exact legal entity name and licence or registration number.
- Current licence or registration status and authorised activities.
- Retail or wholesale permissions where the register distinguishes them.
- Registered website, contact details and any authorised-representative relationship.
What a licence does not prove
A licence belonging to one group entity does not automatically apply to every client, country, website or product offered under the same brand. Confirm the contracting entity and whether the listed permissions cover your client type and activity.
For a practical search sequence, read how to check if a broker is regulated and how to read a register entry.
Risk notes
- Singapore client protections apply to the Singapore-licensed entity only.
- Investor Alert List inclusion is a warning sign, not an exhaustive list of risk.
