What does CySEC regulate?
The financial regulatory authority of Cyprus. Investment firms authorised in Cyprus operate under the EU MiFID framework and may provide services into other EU states through notification procedures.
Jurisdiction: Cyprus (EU). The register is the primary place to confirm an entity’s current status and permissions; this guide does not certify a broker or account.
Licence types (general guidance)
- Cyprus Investment Firm (CIF)
- Authorised investment firm. The licence lists permitted investment services and ancillary services.
- Cross-border notifications
- Passporting notifications let a CIF serve clients in other EU states. They do not create a local authorisation by the host regulator.
General description only. It does not imply that any particular broker holds any of these authorisations.
What should you check on the official register?
- 1Find the CIF licence number and exact legal entity name in the provider’s documents.
- 2Search the regulated entities list on the CySEC website.
- 3Confirm authorised services and the domains listed for the entity.
- 4Review CySEC announcements for warnings, fines or settlements involving the entity.
- Exact legal entity name and licence or registration number.
- Current licence or registration status and authorised activities.
- Retail or wholesale permissions where the register distinguishes them.
- Registered website, contact details and any authorised-representative relationship.
What a licence does not prove
A licence belonging to one group entity does not automatically apply to every client, country, website or product offered under the same brand. Confirm the contracting entity and whether the listed permissions cover your client type and activity.
For a practical search sequence, read how to check if a broker is regulated and how to read a register entry.
Risk notes
- EU retail protections apply to the EU entity; groups often onboard non-EU clients through other entities.
- Investor compensation coverage depends on the entity and client category.
